Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia introduced in Accra what is described as the first EMV dual purpose and payment card for financial inclusion.
Known as Gh Dual Card, a new product from Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Limited (GhIPSS) is a two-in-one payment card that offers E- zwich and Gh-Link applications. Therefore, it can be used as e-zwich, gh-link or both on any payment platform.
According to GhIPPS officials, this card was designed to give cardholders access to their E- Zwich cards and their bank accounts at the same time by eliminating the inconvenience of carrying multiple cards.
This card can be used by cardholders to buy and make payment at any point of sale. Cash withdrawal at ATMs; Change ATM PIN, and check balances. In this way, each customer who has an e-zwich card and also a bank account can choose a dual Gh card instead of two separate cards.
At the opening ceremony on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, Vice President Dr. Bawumia pointed out that Ghana continues to seek greater financial inclusion to ensure overall national development.
“Over the past two years, we have seen the convergence for electronic grounded services as a country, and that is the conscious policy of His Excellency President Nana Addo Danku Akufo-Addo to use technology to improve efficiency while improving the economy. We often tend to see what is done by other countries without acknowledging the big steps we are taking.

“Thanks to the hard work of GhIPSS and partner institutions such as banks, telecommunications and Fintech companies, financial inclusion and brokers have increased significantly today, enabling Ghanaian citizens to smoothly move their funds across various payment platforms: cellphone wallets, electronic wallets, and bank accounts.
“This dual card is a slice of the payment method architecture that we are pioneering, and what we bring to the market today, namely dual e-zwich cards and gh-link cards is number one in the world, which hasn’t happened anywhere in the world. For the first time, a country in the world is showcasing this EMV and joint financial inclusion card, which is extraordinary and will further promote financial inclusion in Ghana.
“In the field of payment systems, and I hesitate to say that, it is clear that Ghana is now a leader that doesn’t need to be questioned in Africa.”
Vice President Bawumia continued, “There is no doubt that Ghana’s operational platform has significantly increased our efforts in national financial inclusion, it has served people who are financially excluded and outsiders, and almost everyone has access to basic banking services Thanks to the convenience created by interoperability, they are involved in a formal banking environment and have access to credit and can invest through their mobile phones.
“With the country where we came from, and the passing of the law on payment systems and services approved by the President, heaven is no longer the limit.”
